I saw many people recommend guitar classes. Is there a site that would list offerrings by area? i did a search on this before and the only ones I found were way too far for me.

The GAL site (www.luth.org) has a listing of quite a few of the classes offered.

Where are you located Frank?

Frank Finocchio is where I took my first class. He is in Easton PA. He is a really nice guy and very easy to work with.

There are lots of schools on the left coast (i.e. Charles Fox, Harry Fleishman, etc.). Those look great too. There are quite a few in Canada...

Lots of choices.

I was in the same class with Frank that Brock was in. I can and do recommend his class to anyone wholeheartedly.

Frank is a great guy and has a very well organized class. You will walk away with a completed guitar after one week of training. The guitar is not lacquered, but is otherwise complete.

And he is probably only an hour or so away from you.

I'll put in a plug for the ASIA Symposium -- it's in Maryland, probably only
an hour or two from you. It won't substitute for a one week or longer
class, but you'll have a chance to meet some of the people who teach
(Frank F. often attends, Sergei de Jonge will be there, Bryan Galloup, and
others, too) AND spend lots of time with some of the best builders in
North America. Hope to see you there.

Eagles, Seahawks, 'for the birds' . Guess not so good if I have to explain it. Another attempt at mild humor down in flames

His name is Dale Bartholomew. I can score up a number for you if you are interested.

Brock, if he is in PA, I'm interested. That would be the closest finisher I've heard of so far.

yeah, he is in PA -- Real close to Easton I think. His number is 610.759.5287.

I am sure he won't mind me posting this publically. He always seems eager for the business.

Brock, have you sent any of your guitars to Dale? If so, what did you think?

Author:  Brock Poling [ Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:47 am ]
Post subject:

I have sent him a few. He does an excellent job. Nitro finishes and a fairly traditional pore fill (i.e. not epoxy).

Prices are good (I am not going to post them here, but call him... I think you will be pleased).

My only reservation with Dale is that he can be a little slow and you need to check in with him often to make sure you are top of mind.

Other than that, I whole heartedly give him an endorsement.

His prices are good....real good.BTW, that is the correct Phone Number Brock. It will take at least 6 weeks for you to get your guitars back. As I recall he use to work for Martin and the last time I talked to him I told him I would pass his name along to everyone here but just forgot to. I will send the two I am working on now to him, he has the facilities to deal professionally with nitro and I don't.

6 weeks is pretty optimistic by my experience. Dale's finishes are very nice and worth the wait. However, I would follow up with him frequently to see "how it is coming".   I find that makes a big difference.

If he's using nitro, wouldn't 6 weeks almost be a bare minimum turnaround? I mean, I want my finishes to harden for a good month before I buff them out (Nitro particularly, at USL as long as I can give it).

I don't think you have to worry about that.

Dale's finishes are really good, and the price is great. My only experience has been he is a little slow. I have never got a guitar back in 6 weeks. 3 months seems to be about my average.

It reminds me of an addage in my buisness (marketing services).... "You can have it perfect, fast, or cheap -- pick any two." It applies precisely to this situation.
